Breeds of Pythons

There are many breeds of pythons and are bred for many purposes. Of course, many rear these snakes for pet purposes. Breeds of pythons are the status symbols in reptile cages.

Reticulated pythons are the ones that are currently thought to serve as biological incubator for certain parasites that can kill rodents.

Yeah... It may be an amazing one but is a fact. Ball pythons are some what easy to breed if scientific management related techniques are adapted by the pet owner or the python breeders.


Indian Rock Python

Python sebae is found in sub-Saharan regions and is of course a non poisonous python species. This breed has been listed as CITES appendix II species.

The females of this breed may lay eggs up to one hundred numbers. Fossil species of pythons are known from Cretaceous period.

There are about thirty two genera of pythons in this world. Nearly twenty four species of pythons are famous among them.

Many breeds are found in Australia and New Guinea and three are found in Asia and three are found in Africa.

The Amethystine pythons are the largest pythons in Australia and New Guinea. These breeds are able to grow up to twenty eight feet. Smallest pythons are also seen in Australia.

The various breeds of pythons are seen in south Asia, southeastern Asia, southeastern China, Philippines and Indonesia also.

Burmese python breeds are so attractive in nature but breeding of these snakes are difficult if no systematic methods are adapted in the reptile cages.

The breeders should understand information pertaining to different breeds and their breeding nature.

For example, the female Indian Rock python makes several constrictions around the clutch of eggs to produce the required heat. Such enhanced heat status is highly required for the successful and effective incubation of eggs.

Royal or ball python called as Python regius and the Angolan python called as Python anchietae generally never exceeds five feet in length.

African rock python can exceed eighteen feet often and can eat wild pigs etc. Malayan blood python is almost reddish in color and eats mice, small rodents and other small sized animals. Green tree python has labial pits that are well developed.

Reticulated python is the largest python that grows upto thirty three feet and is active in night hours only.

The breeders of this breed should know that this breed of snakes spend most of their time in climbing of trees or swimming in water.

These breeds of pythons are very popular in the pet trade and hence it is on demand always. Breeds of pythons are to be cared with more caution and care in reality.
