Sexing Of Guinea Pigs
The male guinea pigs are easier to sex. Yeah... You have to squeeze the area of genitalia in young males. Now, the penile tissue may get protruded in these animals.
Male animals used for the successful breeding should be double the age of the female and this may ensure the success in the breeding events. This has been accepted by many breeders of this animal.
Female guinea pigs become sexually mature in between fifty five and seventy days. Per haps, the male guinea pigs may mature slightly later.
Gestation period lasts for about sixty three to sixty eight days and the litter size of guinea pigs is one to six but average litter size may be three to four. In fact, the boar should be removed from the sow once it becomes pregnant. The sow should have at least a minimum of six months between two litters. So, you need to separate the boar and sow after the successful mating.
The length of estrous cycle is about sixteen days. The females may be receptive to the males for about eight hours.
The correct time for the breeding of males is about three to four months. Some breeders quote that it is better to breed the female guinea pigs after they achieve the body weight of more than six pounds.

apt time for the breeding is about three to six months.
During the breeding time, take more care to monitor the sufficient humidity
inside the cages and it is better to maintain it at the range of about
forty to seventy per cent.
Babies suckle their mothers for about three weeks, in general. Till that time, never wean them because this helps them to acquire good immunity from the mother by suckling.
It is better to avoid the breeding related activities in cases of aged guinea pigs. This is mainly because of the probable fusion of pelvic bones in the senile animals.
The delivery becomes so difficult in such cases. Most of the times, there may be need of caesarian operation in these cases.
One of the significant features pertaining to the breeding of Guinea pigs is that they should be free from diseases. The animals have to be more healthy and active ones. If not, breeding Guinea pigs may not become a successful event, many times.
