Although there are various types of hamsters, you can rear only five breeds as household pets. Moreover the average lifespan of a hamster is 1000 days only, which is approximately three years. But the males can live longer the females.

All the hamsters are having cheek pouches that is being used to carry their young ones, in case of danger and also to carry food. The presence of scent glands is a peculiar thing in hamsters, whereas the location of these glands in a hamster body varies on the breed.

Breeding Details

The age at maturity in hamsters is just 6-8 weeks. The pregnancy period is just 15 days. In one time, hamser will give birth to at least 6-8 pups. Stress plays an important role in the livelihood of young pups. If there is too much stress from external environment, there is possibility of heavy mortality among young ones. (even 100%)
